Will my beagle grow out of his bad behavior?
I got my male beagle when he was about 8 or 9 weeks ancient. We have always scolded him when he chews on toys/shoes/etc. or gets into trash. When he was about 8 months ancient, I took him to obedience school weekly for about 3 months and have kept up on some of the commands. We go on walks at least once a week, sometimes two or three times. We are also a very active family on the weekends and take him on 2-3 mile hikes and tether him to a trailer pulled behind our bicycle on about 10 mile bike rides. Now, he is 16 months ancient and he gets into the trash and jumps up (with his front paws) onto the dining table and kitchen counters. He knows it is incorrect; he gets scolded place in his crate for about 10-15 minutes each time he disobeys. I am near my wit’s end. Will he grow out of this soon, or should I try something new?

well one possible way could try something more tiring so that your beagle doesn’t cause havoc or get him something to keep him busy.
Beagles get bored easily they need DAILY walks. The less activity the more bored and the more destruction. If you aren’t up to the work be prepared for this behavior to continue for another 12-15 years.
its ok but i dont reckon that your beagle will grow out of this behavior this breed of dog its a huntting dog and those types of dog always look around try to find lots of thing an adventure dog
Lol anywonder why? Beagles are NOT once a week walkeers! They NEED 4KM DAILY=2+2=4HOURS walks DAILY.
The rspca australia says BEAGLES require VERY tolerant OWNERS.
Crate SHOULD NEVER be USED for punishment
Number 1; Did you feed him at the table when he was a puppy? He now learnt to beg, When he inside the house, make him wear a leash and collar- make him sit while you eat dinner, and if tries to place his paws on the table, gentle pulll the lead and say Off.
Number 2; Place the trashcan in a room where he cannot access it! Place a Latch on the lid, so he cannot open it
He will not just “out grow” this behaviour. He is not a puppy anymore. You need to teach him that it is innapropriate for him to go anywhere near the kitchen table or trash can. Putting him in his crate obviously is not working.
you need to be rewarding the dog for excellent behavior as well as critical of his terrible behavior. use training treats as rewards . also dogs need to chew. this is an activity that will keep them busy during mealtimes and off your tables. i personally dont like the fakeish kind. go to the grocer and buy soup bones which are large enough for the dog not to swallow and choke on. also change the trash can for a heavier model with a heavy lid. sometimes i keep my trash bag up in the kitchen sink if it has something in it the dog really wants and then dump it outside asap.
Beagles are Puppies forever. Mine was about 15 before she finally stopped escaping from the yard. first of all 10-15 min. Timeouts are too long. 5 minutes or less is sufficient and should only be used if dog is out of control, not if he does a terrible thing one time. That should be corrected and redirected. A long time-out loses its usefulness because the dog has difficulty connecting the cause and effect. A quick time-out will be more effective. I would try a positive reinforcement method of training instead of scolding and timeouts. Beagles respond very well to positive reinforcement.
lmao wow you don’t know obedience training… dogs don’t know the term “punishment” they just know that they are in the situation… putting a dog in a crate as punishment doesn’t work, time outs for dogs are meaningless… and no the dog will continue doing what he is doing till you learn to properly say no, with authority and power…. the no is a dog owner’s largest tool for obedience training and i reckon you might need to re-crate train the dog… and just tell the dog No

Hi….
Your dog isn’t listening to you primarily because you’re asking him to reason. But, dogs don’t reason. So, punishing him by crating him for getting into the garbage means nothing to the dog.
You can teach him to stay out of the kitchen…. i’d also get a trash can that has a lid. Hounds are garbage freaks (i know i’ve had them, and have one now), and ancient habits die hard!
Dogs do need limits and boundaries… so learning that he’s not allowed to hang out in the kitchen can be a excellent thing. You might also want to try some alpha training with him. This page — http://www.husky-petlove.com/husky_alpha_training.html — is on a husky website, but it’s fantastic to use for all dogs, really.
You can do a yahoo search for many different types of training… a few suggestions are
Teach a Dog to Leave It
